Mysuru: Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Chairman K Marigowda on Monday,
firmly defended his long-standing loyalty to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, stating, “I have been loyal to Siddaramaiah for four decades. He is like a deity to me and I would never harm his reputation.”
Marigowda clarified that the issues surrounding the 50:50 site scam emerged before he took office as MUDA Chairman, specifically pointing out that the Chief Minister’s wife Parvathi Siddaramaiah, was allotted a site during the BJP Government’s tenure, not in 2024.
“Unfortunately, our own party leaders are blaming me for this. On September 27 at Mysuru Airport, the party leaders raised slogans against me and Bhaskar, one of the leaders, even tried to assault me. This has hurt me deeply,” he added.
He further explained that, he had written a letter to the MUDA Commissioner regarding the controversial 50-50 site allotment, clarifying that it was not directed against Siddaramaiah.
“Some Congress leaders are targeting me directly. The airport incident disturbed me emotionally, and I’ve had to visit the hospital thrice due to health issues. I am 73 years old and have grown from the grassroots in politics, starting from Gram Panchayat. Even though I am a Vokkaliga, Siddaramaiah has always supported and uplifted me, giving me opportunities throughout my political career. I will remain ever loyal to him,” Marigowda stated.
Marigowda also clarified about the recent controversies surrounding his wife buying a house, stating that, the house was bought from her retirement benefits and an additional bank loan of Rs 50.5 lakh was raised, making the total value of the house Rs 2.5 crore, not Rs 5 crore or 6 crore, as speculated.
Regarding the MUDA site scam, Marigowda said, “MUDA will hold a meeting to discuss about Civic Amenity (CA) sites issued before my tenure. We will hold a meeting after Dasara and will consider withdrawing these CA sites.”
When asked about the speculations about his resignation as MUDA Chairman, Marigowda said, “Siddaramaiah is my high command. I will follow his instructions. Regarding MUDA issue, I have interacted with the CM, and he has advised me to proceed, knowing that the process happened in 2020-21, while I assumed office in 2024. He supports me fully and he is aware of the facts.”
Marigowda also mentioned that MLA K Harishgowda had written a letter about the 50-50 site allotted at Maragowdanahalli Survey Nos 57 and 77, while K R MLA T S Srivatsa had also written raising queries about Mysuru Kasaba Survey No. 86.
“We have put these matters on hold,” Marigowda concluded.
