CM calls teachers to reflect on the quality of their teaching

1 min read

Bengaluru: The purpose of teaching is not just educating children but also to mould them to become Universal man (Vishwa Manava), observed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Speaking after inaugurating the Teachers Day at the Banquet Hall here on Tuesday, CM Siddaramaiah said that farmers, soldiers and teachers are the pillars of our society who strive to build the country’s future. Criticising narrow mentality even among highly qualified people, the Chief Minister wondered if education does not help them to question superstitions and prevent them from rational thinking, what’s the point of education. “For years, women and Shudras were banished from getting education but the Constitution has provided an opportunity for everyone to get educated. But, the Constitution is under threat now and the onus is on us to protect the constitution,” he said. It is unfortunate that even after 76 years of Independence, the country has not been able to achieve 100 percent literacy. Those who are deprived of education will suffer inequality. “But with rational and scientific thinking nurtured through education, the country would be able to prosper,” CM Siddaramaiah said.

Taking note of differing quality of education from district to district, CM Siddaramaiah called upon the teachers to reflect on their quality of teaching.

On the occasion, as many as 43 distinguished teachers were presented with State awards.

School Literacy and Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa and Higher Education Minister Dr M C Sudhakar were present.
