CM announces Rs 1,600 crore lockdown relief

Bengaluru: The lockdown norms which are in place since 45 days due to Covid-19 pandemic, have been relaxed in the state. But it does not mean that there is no lockdown in the State, clarified Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa.

The lockdown was relaxed as people were on distress due to the pandemic, he added.

Explaining the measures taken by his government, Yeddyurappa said that over one lakh migrant workers who were stranded in the state due to lockdown have been sent to their native. However, this service will be suspended from tomorrow, he informed.
Builders have been providing food and shelter to the stranded labourers despite no work, the chief minister said. 
“We have released Rs 1,600 cr package as lockdown relief. No other state in the country has announced such a package,” he claimed. 
The government has understood the plight of farmers involved in floriculture. Flowers grown in 11,687 hectares were destroyed as there was no sale of flowers leaving farmers in lurch. Hence, we have taken the decision to help them, said the chief minister. 
The government will provide Rs 25,000 per hectare as relief package to farmers.
On farmers who have suffered losses for not able to market vegetables and fruits, the government will announce separate package to them soon. 
He further said that washermen and barbers too have lost their daily jobs due to the pandemic. Hence, the government has decided to provide 2,30,000 barbers and  60,000 washermen, Rs 5,000 each to them.
To help auto and taxi drivers, the government has decided to provide them one time payment of Rs 5,000 each. 
The government has waived off fixed minimum charges in the power bills of small and medium industries for two months. 
In addition to Rs 109 crore loan waiver to weavers, the government has waived off all the loans. Besides, options are being explored to provide them fresh loans. The government has decided to pay back money to weavers who have cleared loan up to Rs one lakh.
Under, Nekara Samman Yojana, weavers will be provided Rs 2,000 monthly. This will benefit 40,000 weavers.
To prevent migrant workers from travelling, they will be given Rs 5000, he said. About 15.8 lakh workers will get Rs 2,000 compensation.
