City Central Library! New building, digital library ready to beckon book lovers

Mysuru: As many as 36,000 books, 31 prominent dailies, 51 journals and a new and sophisticated building to pore over the literature of your choice. What more does a bibliophile need to immerse in the world of books?
The new building of City Central Library was dedicated on Friday at People’s Park, Nazarbad in the city. The library built on heritage lines is constructed at the estimated cost of Rs 5.34 crore on 1819.7 square metres of space.
Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL) which took over the works in January 2017 completed it recently in March.
District minister S T Somashekar inaugurates the new building of City Central Library at People’s Park, Nazarbad in Mysuru. Mayor Tasneem, Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar, MLAs S A Ramadass and L Nagendra, Deputy Commissioner Sharat B and others are seen.
The ground floor is exclusively for braille scripts and specially abled, women’s section, computer and digital library, senior citizens, Children’s, competitive exams sections and other facilities.
The first floor includes the administrative section with deputy director’s chamber, chief librarian’s chamber, office, technical cell, mini and open auditorium to name a few.
While the rainwater harvesting facility is already installed, a proposal will be sent to add lift and rooftop solar panel.
It is also also proposed to develop a herbal garden, landscaping, vehicle parking facility, walking path and stone benches on the premises.
On Friday Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar and District Incharge Minister S T Somashekar inaugurated the library.
MLAs S A Ramadass and L Nagendra, Deputy Director Manjunath and others were present.
In 2017, Department of Public Libraries launched the works completed after a gap of three years.
Earlier, the city central library was functioning at a good old building on Sayyajirao Road, ever since it was opened in 1915.
