CID team visits Mandya, Mysuru to probe complaint letter against Agriculture Minister Chaluvarayaswami

Mandya: A team of CID officials visited Agriculture Department in Mandya – on Wednesday – with regard to a complaint letter by seven assistant directors of Mandya agriculture department alleging bribery charges against Agriculture Minister N Chaluvarayaswamy.

After the furore over the letter which was forwarded by the Governor’s office to Chief Secretary Vanditha Sharma, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah initiated a CID inquiry into the whole issue, on Tuesday.

A team led by CID Inspector General Madhukar Pawar visited Agriculture Joint Director’s office and held a discussion with Joint Director V S Ashok.

Later, the team reportedly inquired seven assistant directors, individually, who reportedly complained against the minister. District Superintendent of Police N Yatish accompanied the team. The team also visited Saraswathipuram Post office in Mysuru as the letter – dispatched to the Governor’s office – was posted from here.

It may be recalled here that seven assistant directors of Agriculture Department in Mandya district alleged that Minister Cheluvarayaswamy was demanding a bribe of Rs 10 lakh in a letter written to the Governor.

It allegedly said that the seven assistant directors were under pressure to give bribe of Rs 10 lakh by Minister Cheluvarayaswamy, who is also Mandya district In-charge Minister. It further said that if this harassment was not controlled, they would consume poison along with their family members. This letter was later forwarded by Governor’s Additional Secretary G Pradeep to Chief Secretary Vanditha Sharma.

Minister Chaluvarayaswamy dismissed it a fake letter and appealed the chief minister to initiate inquiry into it.
