Chit fund scam: Prime accused on run held

Mysuru: A man who was on the run after allegedly cheating several persons who had invested lakhs of rupees in his chit fund, has been finally arrested.

Gurumurthy alias Raju a resident of Srirampura second stage in the city, was evading arrest from the past one and a half years. One of the investors spotted him in the railway station in Bengaluru on Thursday. He caught hold of him and alerted nearby police about the case in Mysuru. He was later brought to Mysuru and was handed over to Ashokapuram police.

Raju had gone underground after cheating his investors of several lakhs of rupees. Following the complaints, Ashokapuram police had booked a case against four persons including Raju. Three others had been arrested and were released on bail. Raju had continued to be elusive.

His family members had lodged a missing person complaint at the same Ashokapuram station. On several occasions the police had brought a search warrant against him and had searched for him in his house.

Learning about his arrest, most of the investors gathered outside the station on Thursday night.
