‘Chikka Tirupati’ brims with devotees in Nagamangala taluk

Nagamangala: Venkateshwara Temple at Naganakere in Devalapura hobli in the taluk is brimming with devotees on account of ‘Gidada Jathre’ on Friday.

It is popular as ‘Chikka Tirupati’ or ‘second Tirupati’ (the main Tirupati shrine is at Andhra Pradesh and attracts lakhs of devotees every year). It is widely believed that, since ages whoever cannot go to main Tirupati, visit second Tirupati and feel equally blessed by the Lord.

Adding to the speciality of this jatre, Dasaiah (a sect of people in traditional attire who blow conch, apply red and white tilaks on their forehead and seek alms), gathered in large numbers at this shrine, since the crack of dawn. The chantings of ‘Govinda Govinda’ reverberated touching the skies, marking the festive occasion with aplomb.

The devotees from various parts of the district who descended in large numbers, performed various services to please the lord.
After having the Darshan of Venkateshwara, the devotees fulfilled the vow of tonsuring their head.
A large numbers of vendors who had set up make shift stalls, did a brisk business, especially of toys and eatables.

After the jatre, Dasaiahs gather at Murkonahalli and perform ‘Paani Seve’ and proceed towards Tirupati.
Preparations for the jatre began on the eve on Thursday.
