2 min read

Mysuru: As the cry for change in guard in the state was heard again, which assumed significance with even Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa breaking his silence, Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva Mahasabha, Mysuru unit has launched a campaign in support of Yediyurappa.

In a campaign launched on social media, with all its central, state and women’s units endorsing, the Mahasabha has categorically stated that Yediyurappa should complete his term as the chief minister.

Or else, if Yediyurappa quits either on his own or on the instructions of high command, measures should be taken to ensure that even if anybody succeeds Yediyurappa it should be from Veerashaiva Lingayat again. Yediyurappa should also take the responsibility and ensure justice to the community, as he has made it clear that there is no dearth of alternative leaders.

Even BJP high command is equally responsible to ensure justice to the voters of the community. Otherwise, both BJP and Yediyurappa should be ready to face the wrath of the community.

If gone by the recent developments, it is quite evident that the party high command is planning to change the leadership in the state reasoning the age (of Yediyurappa) or for other reasons. Adding credence to this, Yediyurappa himself offered to quit if the high command asks him to do so.

Veerashaiva lingayats have played a prominent role in making Yediyurappa the chief minister, with its sincere and honest efforts. It is natural that the community feels agitated whenever there is a clamour for leadership change in the state.

The community has been playing a prominent role for the past several decades as it holds the distinction of coming out in support of many parties who have held the reins of the state.

Not ignoring the other communities, Veerashaiva Lingayats are also able to take along with them the other community members too in mobilising votes, with the desire to see one of its community leaders decorating the top office of the state.

It was the posit for Veerashaiva Lingayat community, one of the strongest communities in the state to extend its overwhelming support to Yediyurappa in 2018 elections. As it was also the wish of the community to see Yediyurappa as chief minister, the BJP leaders should allow him to complete his term.

Moreover before taking any steps, the top guns in the party should keep in mind the interest of both the party and Karnataka  state.

It is true that the community is at crossroads, in finding a formidable leader after Yediyurappa. But, it is also true that the community wants Yediyurappa to complete his term.
