Chess prodigy Praggnanandhaa loses against Magnus Carlsen in Chess World Cup Final 2023

Mysuru: India’s 18-year-old chess prodigy R Praggnanandhaa resigned against Norway’s Magnus Carlsen in the agonising tiebreak at the Chess World Cup Final 2023 taking the runner-up spot. Magnus Carlsen was declared the World Cup Winner at the event being held at Baku, Azerbaijan.

On his way to the final, he beat among others, World No 2 Hikaru Nakamura and World No 3 Fabiano Caruana.

Maguns prevailed against Praggnanandhaa and his persistence was rewarded.

Hailing from a modest background in Chennai, Praggnanandhaa made history when he became the youngest International Master at the age of just 10. His sister Vaishali Rameshbabu is also a chess player.

India who was hoping Praggnanandhaa to beat Magnus still rejoiced at the 18-year-old’s remarkable journey. Several took to social media platform to congratulate Praggnanandhaa.

Anand Mahindra wrote on Twitter “You aren’t the ‘runner-up’ @rpragchess This is simply yor ‘run-up’ to Gold and greatness. Many battles require you to learn and live to fight another day. You’ve learned and you will fight again; and we will be there again… cheering you on loudly.”
