Chapter on Tipu Sultan dropped! MLA Tanveer Sait lambasts BJP government

2 min read

Mysuru: Former minister and MLA Tanveer Sait took a dig at BJP led State Government for dropping a chapter on erstwhile Mysuru ruler Tipu Sultan from the text book of class seven in the state.

Sait who is vocal when it comes to the alleged disparity of BJP towards Tipu Sultan said “Following the impact of Covid-19 on regular schooling, 30 per cent of the syllabus is trimmed for the benefit of students. However it is unfair to remove the chapter on Tipu”.

The contribution of Tipu towards rocket science was one of the earliest and is still recognised by scientists across the world. The remnants of the rocket are still exhibited at NASA.

The contribution of Tipu towards the development of Mysuru province is also immense. As a secular ruler, he had also developed a good rapport with Sringeri Mutt. He had introduced land reforms, banned liquor and had brought in many reforms. However the government is adamant on twisting the history. It’s not the time to play politics in the name of Tipu.

Appealing to the government to review its decision, Sait said he has also written a letter to the government.

Earlier we had an inkling that Tipu Jayanti will be stopped, but we were clueless about this move of the government. It is also an unilateral decision of the authorities ignoring the recommendations of text books committee, said Sait who hinted at launching a struggle.
