Chamundeshwari car festival at Chamundi Hill! Presiding deity decorated as ‘Simha Vahini’

Mysuru: Rathotsava (car festival) of Goddess Chamundeshwari at Chamundi Hill was conducted on Tuesday.
As per tradition, scion of erstwhile royal family Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar took part in the puja and symbolically pulled the chariot to mark the beginning of the car festival.
Pramoda Devi Wadiyar and Trishika Kumari also pulled the chariot along with Yaduveer.
Yaduveer also led the car festival, as the idol of the presiding deity was carried around the temple along with the devotees.
The flower bedecked procession idol was decorated as ‘Simha Vahini’ ( Riding Lion) along with jewels of yore.
It has been a tradition in practice as the car festival is celebrated every year after Dasara.
However owing to Covid restrictions, the rituals this year was simple. Mantapotsava was conducted within the temple precincts. The idol was taken out in procession in a small chariot.
To avoid the rush due to Covid safety norms, the entry of devotees and general public to the hill was restricted.
Ahead of the car festival, various rituals and abhisheka was performed to the presiding deity from early morning hours.
