Chamundeshwari blessed ‘Simha’ again

1 min read

Mysuru: As and when the elections are declared in Mysuru, all eyes will be on Chamundeshwari. It may be the presiding deity Goddess Chamundeshwari temple atop Chamundi Hill or Chamundeshwari assembly segment.

The temple attracts leaders irrespective of party who kneel down before the Goddess only to seek her blessings for the victory. So also the assembly segment by the same name, which was the political stronghold of former chief minister Siddaramaiah till he ceded ground to JD(S) minister G T Devegowda.

Both sitting BJP MP Pratap Simha and his close rival from Congress had made similar prayers before the Goddess. So also at Chamundeshwari assembly segment where the strong combination of majority Lingayat and Vokkaliga votes have turned out to be the most decisive factor. The duo had kept their cards close when it came to Chamundeshwari. However when the results came Simha had been largely benefited.

Simha polled over one lakh votes ( 1, 11, 365) and Vijayashankar 89,215 votes, a difference of 22,150 votes. It was also a second highest margin only after Madikeri considers as BJP stronghold. In Madikeri Simha polled 1.02 lakh votes against Vijayashankar’s 58,185 votes.

A total of eight assembly segments-six in Mysuru district and two in Kodagu are under Mysuru-Kodagu LS segment.
