Chamarajanagar: Farmers’ leader Honnur Prakash has threatened not to allow district in-charge minister to hoist the national flag on August 15 as a mark of protest against the government’s apathy in providing basic amenities in Male Mahadeshwara Hills and other villages on the forest fringes.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Sunday, Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene district unit president Honnur Prakash came down heavily on the district administration and the government for neglecting basic rights of the people in these forest areas. There are no proper roads in MM Hills and people in these border villages are deprived basic medical facilities. “We have been fighting for these rights for several years. Yet, the government has not done anything about it. The district in-charge minister has no right to unfurl the national flag as people here are still living in dire straits, ” he added.

Legislator K Venkatesh is Chamarajanagar district in-charge minister.

He further said that farmers in Amekere, the forest department has acquired farmers’ lands. But, they have not been adequately compensated, yet. The government has been promising to address this issue but in vain, he added.
“We will not reveal how we are going to protest. But we wont allow the minister to hoist the Tricolour,” he said.
