Cauvery water from KRS to TN: Farmers take out torchlight rally in Mysuru

Mysuru: Following the release of Cauvery water from Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) dam in Mandya to Tamil Nadu, farmers took out a torchlight rally in the city on Friday.
The rally was taken out under the leadership of Karnataka State Sugarcane Association President Kurubur Shanthakumar, from the premises of Kote Anjaneya Swamy temple in Mysuru Palace North Gate.
The protesting farmers holding torchlight, raised slogans against the government and also politicians calling them as corrupt. The farmers also demanded justice from the government.
Protests have erupted in Mysuru, Mandya and Chamarajanagar districts, after the State Government started releasing water from KRS dam, following the order of Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) to release 5,000 cusecs of water for 15 days.
The farmers are worried over the release of water, especially in Mandya district where the sugarcane growers are largely dependent on Cauvery water.
