Car festival tragedy! Death toll touches two, one more dies in Mysuru hospital

Mysuru: The death toll in relation to the tragedy during the car festival at Parvathi Betta (Hill) in Gundlupet taluk in Chamarajanagar has touched two.

Swamy (40) of Kandegala village in admitted at a hospital in Mysuru succumbed to the injuries on Sunday.

As part of Parvathamba car festival, the enthusiastic devotees were pulling the chariot at around 11-30 AM, when some of the devotees accidentally came under the wheels of the chariot.

While a 24-year-old youth identified as Sarpabhooshan was killed on the spot,  three sustained critical injuries and were admitted in different hospitals in Mysuru, Gundlupet and Chamarajanagar hospitals.

On the other hand, villagers staged protest up to midnight demanding not less than Rs 20 lakh compensation for the next of the kin.

Eventually the district administration agreed for Rs five lakh, but the villagers turned down.

Later, district incharge minister V Somanna called Deputy Commissioner Charulatha Somal and directed to pay Rs 10 lakh compensation.

Somanna will call on the victims families on May 22.
