Car festival atop Chamundi Hill! Yaduveer pulls chariot as per tradition

Mysuru: Scion of erstwhile royal family of Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar on Thursday pulled the chariot of Goddess Sri Chamundeshwari.
The chariot was taken out on account of the car festival atop Chamundi Hill. The procession was organised during the auspicious Dhanur lagna between 9-40 am and 10-05 am.

While the big chariot was not used for the car festival this time, the small chariot was used to keep the tradition.
According to the legend, the maharajas of Mysuru started the tradition, by organising the car festival every year after Dasara. A large number of devotees were taking part in the festival to catch a glimpse of the Goddess.
Yaduveer said “the festival has been organised according to the tradition in practice at palace. Let the world get rid of Corona and people be blessed with welfare”.
Chief priest Shashishekar Dixit said “The coracle festival has been however cancelled this year”.
However as a precaution against Covid-19, the authorities had restricted devotees from descending on the shrine for the occassion.
MLAs G T Devegowda, S A Ramadass and L Nagendra were present.
