District incharge Minister S T Somashekar took part in the customary puja along with Deputy Commissioner Dr Bagadi Gautham also the Dasara Special Officer, Police Commissioner Dr Chandragupta and DCP (Crime and Traffic) Geetha Prasanna.

It is a tradition associated with Dasara, as puja is performed as a prelude to the start of the practice of firing the cannon loaded with gun powder.

The select personnel attached to city armed Reserve (CAR) police wing will be roped in for the practice. The practice will be conducted along with Dasara elephants and horses, to acclimatise them with the sound, that is scheduled to start in September first week this time.

On the D-day of Vijayadashami, the last leg of Dasara on Jamboo Savari day, 21 rounds of fire will be shot from the canons as a mark of respect to Goddess Chamundeshwari the idol of which will be kept in 750-kg Golden Howdah mounted on the elephant.

As other elephants and horses will also be a part of the procession, they will be a part of the training session, so that they won’t run amok on the said day.
