‘Bunt community has 5 MLAs and a MP yet deprived of grants, corporation’

2 min read

Mysuru: Members of the Bunt community demanded the State government to classify them under the 3B from 2A category and set up a corporation for the community.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Friday, Bunts Association, Mysuru unit president T Prabhakar Shetty observed that the Bunt community is not a wealthy community, as is being projected. The community is backward in terms of education, health and politics. “Our community has contributed one each MLC and MP and five legislators. Even State BJP unit president Nalin Kumar Kateel is from our community. Yet, unfortunately, the community, like other communities, does not have a corporation to work for the community,” he pointed out. Stating that 60 per cent of the Bunt community are still living below poverty line, Shetty appealed the government to provide reservation to the community.

In this regard, the community urges the chief minister to set up a corporation for the Bunt community that will work for the betterment of the community. He threatened to hold protests, if the government fails to consider their demands.

World Bunt Associations’ Federation president I Harish Shetty said that majority of the communities are entitled for grants and aids from the government through their respective corporations. But the Bunt community has been deprived of all this. “Until now, we have not fought for corporation. We relied on five legislators and a MP to voice our concern. Since they have failed at it, we have now decided to demand the government to set up Bunts Corporation,” he said.
