1 min read

Mandya: A bullock cart race in Mandya district turned tragic when a 55-year-old farmer was killed after he came under the wheels of the racing cart, on Sunday. During the incident, 10-year-old boy too has sustained severe injuries and is battling for his life at a hospital.

The deceased has been identified a Nagaraju, a resident of Kilara village in Mandya taluk and injured as Hruthvik from Hulivana village.

The inter-state bullock cart race was organised at Chikka Mandya in the district where over 80 pairs of bulls had participated. People had lined up on either side of the track to watch the race. However, Nagaraju and Hruthvik were standing near the finishing line. As the carts raced towards the finishing line, the victims along with other people began to run helter skelter to avoid being hit by bulls. But, Nagaraju and Hruthvik could not manage to escape and they came under the wheels of the speeding carts.

Onlookers immediately rushed them to MIMS but Nagaraju had breathed his last on the way to the hospital. Hruthvik who sustained severe injuries, is admitted to the hospital.

Meanwhile, it has come to light that the organisers had not sought permission from the authorities concerned to conduct the race. They are now absconding and have switched off their cellphones.
