Budding futsal player from Mysuru meets tragic death in Rome

Mysuru: A young sports achiever from Mysuru has lost his life in a tragedy in far away Italy.

M Yashwanth Kumar a 24-year-old emerging futsal player met his watery grave in a waterbody at Rome in Italy on August 6.

He is the son of Mysore inlay artist Kumar of N R Mohalla in the city.

Owing to Covid conditions, the parents couldn’t even have a glimpse of their son for one last time.

Kannadigas at Rome took the onus of performing last rites.

Yashwanth Kumar had a penchant for Futsal a football game played on a hard court, but smaller than a football ground and mainly indoors. It has similarities to football, but played between two teams of five players each, and one of them is the goalkeeper.

Yashwanth went to Italy on two years contract with Calcio C5 team, in 2019.

Yashwanth Kumar studied Mechanical Engineering at Vidya Vardhaka College of Engineering (VVCE). The college management helped him by donating Rs one lakh to meet his travel and related expenses.

After learning about his tragic death, relatives and friends in numbers are calling on the grief stricken family of Kumar for the last four days.

Karnataka State Handicrafts Manufacturers Association President Ramu and national awardee P Gowraiah have also expressed their condolences for Yashwanth Kumar’s death.
