Brimming KRS backwaters roars with sailors on board

Mandya: National level YAI multi-class youth sailing and kite board championship-2022 took off at KRS backwaters on Monday.
The six-day event that concludes on August 13 has been witnessing the participation of over 120 sailors from across the country.
The tournament is organised by the district administration along with Madras Engineering Group (MEG) in association with General Thimmaiah National Adventure Academy (GETHNAA).
Minister for Sports and Youth Empowerment Dr K Narayan Gowda inaugurated the championship along with District Incharge Minister K R Gopalaiah.
Gowda said “It’s a perfect opportunity for the sailors to showcase their skills at both national and international levels. The Sports Department has sanctioned Rs 25 lakh to organise the tournament with the sole intention of developing this part of the district as a tourist hub. More impetus will be given on these lines in the coming days.”
District incharge Minister K Gopalaiah announced that measures will be taken to organise the sailing tournament at International level from next year.
“Four sailors who took part in the tournament here last year were selected for International tournament. It will also generate employment opportunities at the local level and will hold talks with chief minister in this regard”, said Gopalaiah.
