2 min read

Bengaluru: In a suspected bomb blast at popular Rameshwaram Cafe at Whitefield in Bengaluru at least four people were injured, sending shock waves among the people in the capital city on Friday.

According to CCTV camera footage, a person is seen placing a bag at the cafe, in which  improvised explosive device (IED) was found later.

Among those who suffered injuries, three are the staff of the cafe and a 45-year-old woman who seems to be a customer. Barring the woman who has suffered 40 percent burns, the other three are out of danger, said Dr Pradeep of a private hospital who is treating them.

Initially, when the blast occurred at around 12.55 pm, it was suspected to be a LPG cylinder explosion.

As the Police reached the spot and launched an investigation, it came to know that a man in the guise of a customer placed the bag in which IED was found, while the LPG cylinders were intact without any leakage reported in them.

Fire and Emergency Services personnel who rushed to the spot soon after receiving the information, doused the smoke that was billowing out after the blast, that had brought a part of the ceiling of the cafe down.

DG and IGP Alok Mohan, Police Commissioner B Dayanand visited the spot.

Divya Rao Managing Director and co-founder of the cafe also told a TV channel that “Twin blasts are said to have occurred near the hand washing and utility space used to keep the used plates. There are neither any explosive substances kept in that place. We are cooperating with the police in their investigation and have provided access to CCTV footage of the cafe.”
