Mysuru: Following bird flu, the business of egg has suffered a massive blow. The price of egg in wholesale market has touched a new low from Rs 520 to Rs 300 for 100 eggs.

The traders mainly at Devaraja market and surrounding areas are left in lurch as barely any customers are coming to purchase eggs.

One of the shop owners told Mysoorunews.com “a week ago we had sold 100 eggs at the rate of Rs 520 and now there are hardly any customers even to buy eggs for Rs 300”.

Star Egg merchant Abdul said the transaction has come down by 70 per cent to 80 per cent. Earlier we used to sell 10,000 eggs per day and now it is about 600 eggs. We are hopeful that the situation may improve after this week, he added.

Mysuru city corporation whic has already restricted meat shops from selling chicken is also thinking to restrain egg business for sometime, MCC sources said.
