2 min read

Mysuru: As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Bharath Hospital and Institute of Oncology (BHIO, Bharath Cancer Hospital, Mysuru), will hold free screening camp and 50 per cent discount on mammography screening test on every Saturday of this month (October) between 10 am and 1 pm.

Dr YS Madhavi, Senior Radiation Oncologist and Medical Superintendent BHIO said “Breast cancer is the most common kind of cancer in women. The good news is that many women can survive breast cancer if it’s found and treated early. A mammogram – the screening test for breast cancer can help find breast cancer early when it’s easier to treat. Hence to commemorate Breast Cancer Month, Bharath Hospital and Institute of Oncology will be giving a 50 per cent discount on Mammography test. Those interested can also undergo a Mammography test on all Saturdays of October month between 10 am and 1pm.

“Breast cancer is on the rise, both in rural and urban India. Cancer survival becomes more difficult in higher stages of its growth, the majority of Indian women with breast cancer present in advanced stages. According to the National Cancer Registry of India, it is estimated that by 2025, there will be 230,000 new cases of breast cancer annually in the country with a notable increase in young women (below the age of 40) being diagnosed. The very reason for a low breast cancer survival rate of women in India accounts from its lack of awareness and poor early screening and diagnosis. Hence an awareness programme is arranged in various organizations and institutions’ added Dr Madhavi.
