Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway turning out highway of horrorway!

2 min read

Mysuru: There seems to be no end to traffic woes on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway if one goes by the number of videos shared on social media, even after the introduction of two radars.

On July 12, around 1 pm, a heavily-laden transport lorry hit a median, passed through another lane and hit a barricaded service road. It has been captured in CCTV installed nearby.

In another incident, an autorickshaw is captured taking the wrong direction on the Expressway. A video of the same has been uploaded on social media expressing concern for other vehicles approaching the road.

Even bikers continue to flout the rule and continue to take the wrong direction putting the lives of others at risk.

It may be recalled here that after a video of a biker coming in the wrong direction was posted on the social media handle, ADGP ALok Kumar inspected the stretch and had said that the biker was fined. After his inspection, mobile radars are being used to keep a watch on traffic violators. The two radar vehicles will keep an eye on the overspeeding vehicles on the stretch from Kumbalgodu to Channapattana and fine violators. The speed limit on the highway is fixed at 100/km ph.

Even Home Minister Dr G Parameshwar too inspected the Expressway and claimed that it was inaugurated in a hurry without taking any safety measures to concern.

More than 500 accidents and fatalities have been reported on the stretch since it was thrown open to the public in March. Although it is the first access-controlled Expressway – built at a cost of 8,408 cr – in South India, the 119-km stretch of Expressway has become a headache for the Highway authorities.
