Tumakuru: A Tumakuru BJP leader Shakuntala S Gubbi has courted controversy for sharing a communally sensitive message on the Balasore train tragedy.

Shakuntala, who is said to be working in the IT Cell of BJP had shared a picture that looked like a mosque – but in reality it was the ISKCON building – and had tried to project that the mosque was the ‘reason’ behind the horrific train tragedy. Following this, the Odisha Police have decided to initiate action against Shakuntala.

In a tweet, Oisha Police have said that “It has come to notice that some social media handles are mischievously giving communal colour to the tragic train accident at Balasore. This is highly unfortunate. Investigation by the GRP, Odisha into the cause and all other aspects of the accident is going on.”

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has stated that an error in digital interlocking system has caused the horrific tragedy. But Shakuntala had marked a picture that looked like a mosque and claimed that the mosque was the ‘reason’ behind the tragedy. Her post has been shared by many inviting the Odisha police’s attention.

Although, Shakuntala has deleted the controversial tweet now, the screenshot of the post has given headache to the BJP leader.

It is reported that the Odisha police are gathering information about Shakuntala from Karnataka police.

The Odisha police have requested people to desist from sharing or giving communal colour to the train tragedy and has also warned of severe legal action against those trying to create communal disharmony by spreading rumours.
