The protesters numbering about 100, irrespective of men and women dressed in black, unitedly opposed the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Protesters holding national flag and raising slogans, strongly demanded the government to revoke the law and criticised the government and its policies.

Falling economy, rising unemployment are the burning issues, while the government is diverting people’s attention towards other issues, protesters alleged.

Placards reading slogans like- ‘Save democracy’, ‘not to divide India by religion’, ‘No CAA and No NRC’ were displayed at the protest. What drew the attention was a ‘Hindi English’ slogan that held a poser to Home Minister Amit Shah. “Kahan se seekha divide and rule? Shah: Angrez jo the abba humare woh ye policy chod ke gaye the”, was the slogan that poked at Shah for what may have prompted him to bring in those law.

City police had made elaborate security arrangements, manning all the thre entry gates of the Town Hall. Barring agitators, the vehicles were not allowed.
