Awareness on legal aid marks National Legal Services Day at Vidya Vikas Institute of Legal Studies

Mysuru: Vidya Vikas Institute of Legal Studies (VVILS) had organised National Legal Services Day with a thought-provoking session focused on raising awareness about legal aid, justice and individual rights, on Saturday at the VVILS campus in Mysuru.

The programme featured prominent figures from the legal field who emphasised the importance of accessible legal services.

The event opened with a keynote address by the Chief Guest, Prof (Dr) P Ishwara Bhat, Legal Education Advisor at VVILS and former Vice Chancellor of Karnataka State Law University.

In his address, Prof Bhat underscored the vital role of legal aid in promoting justice for marginalised communities and stressed the importance of educating citizens about their rights.

His remarks set the stage for a programme aimed at increasing access to justice for all.

Dr S Nataraju, Director of VVILS, Mysuru, presided over the event and highlighted the significance of legal aid programmes in bridging the gap for individuals unable to afford representation.

He emphasised the ongoing efforts to make legal services more accessible, aligning with the day’s objective.

The programme was attended by Dr Sanjith M N, Principal of VVILS and was smoothly coordinated by Santosh V Anushka Dechamma served as the Master of Ceremonies, engaging the audience throughout.

The event began with a warm welcome by Jovan Prakash Lobo and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Charitha P A, who expressed appreciation to the speakers and attendees.

The session underscored VVILS’s commitment to legal education and advocacy, serving as a platform to advance awareness of justice and legal rights in society.
