Auto driver rescues ‘missing’ Belagavi boy in Mysuru

Mysuru: An alert autorickshaw driver has rescued a boy from Belagavi in the city, who had allegedly gone missing.

Shivaraj Mahaling Melamatti, 14 years, son of Mahaling Melamatti, Hidkal dam, Belagavi district, is the boy who has been reunited with his family, due to the good samaritan act of auto driver Harish Kumar. 

Shivaraj was found crying near the City Bus Stand on Tuesday morning around 10.30 am. Harish Kumar who suspected something amiss, enquired the boy. It came know that the boy had run away from home and gave the details about his parents to auto driver Harish Kumar. Harish Kumar called the cell phone number given by the boy and informed his parents about their son safe in Mysuru.

Later, Harish Kumar took the boy to Devaraja Police station. The police alerted their counterparts at Yamakanamaradi station in Hukkeri taluk, Belagavi. Yamakanamaradi police informed the boy’s maternal uncle Neelakanta Podi, who came to Mysuru and took his nephew along with him.

Shivaraj who had left home for tuition two days ago, had accidentally boarded a Belagavi bus. He later took a train to Mysuru and appeared lost.

Devaraja Police Inspector T B Shivakumar and Sub-inspector Jaikeeerthi lauded autorickshaw driver Harish Kumar for his sense of mind and rescuing the boy.
