Mysuru: Two years after the Covid-19 pandemic kept the devotees away from Ashada Friday puja mahotsava at Goddess Chamundeshwari temple at Chamundi Hill, the annual ritual began at the hill shrine with pomp and gaiety on Friday.
The rituals began at 3 AM, with the presiding deity Chamundeshwari adorned in ‘Lakshmi Alankara’. The devotees are visiting the temple since 3.30 AM, with police finding it tough to handle the crowd.
The temple is decorated with flowers of types like Mallige, Sevanthige (Chrysanthemum), Kamala (Lotus), Gulabi (Rose), Jarbera to name a few.
Though the devotees continue to throng the temple, still the actual crowd of devotees like previous years were missing on the opening day of the ritual.
It is attributed to the fear of pandemic that is still ingrained deep in the minds of the people and the recurrence of Covid cases in the State.
Shashishekar Dixit the chief priest of the temple said “Unlike previous years, there is a fall in the number of devotees this time. Not less than 15,000 devotees were visiting the temple in the early morning hours itself. The decline in number of devotees can be attributed to Covid safety norms”.
Meanwhile Chamaraja MLA L Nagendra who visited the temple along with his family members in the early morning hours exuded confidence that the devotees will turn up in large numbers.
The MLA also extended Ashada Friday wishes to the people of Mysuru.
