As rainy season begins, Kodagu district administration bans movement of select HMVs

Kodagu: Following the onset of rainy season, Kodagu district administration has banned movement of heavy motor vehicles of certain categories from June 23 to August 16.

According to a release from Deputy Commissioner ” goods vehicles weighing more than the registered weight of 16,200 kg, all types of timber and sand vehicles, all types of ship cargo containers, bullet tankers and long chassis vehicles are prohibited during the period.”

While LPG vehicles, milk and government vehicles, school and college vehicles, private vehicles including multi axle buses are allowed.

The police and RTO officers have been told to open checkposts on NH-275 at Kushalnagar and Sampaje for round the clock vigil. Mobile patrolling will be conducted and police and RTO personnel have been told to initiate action against the offenders, the release added.

The measures are taken as a precaution against floods, with the roads that had been damaged in the floods in previous years already repaired by the authorities.

In the last thre years, rain followed by floods were damaged. Hence the movement of vehicles are prohibited to prevent the possibilities of private and public properties from being damaged, the release added.
