As Corona scare grips, KSRTC continues running into losses

1 min read

Mysuru: With Coronavirus threat looming large and the restrictions imposed, movement of KSRTC buses has come to a standstill. While this will benefit the public at large, the state owned transport corporation also has to bear the huge losses caused by the threat.

The urban division plies 458 buses to connect every nook and corner of the city. An average revenue on a single day is Rs 30 lakh at the division. With the restriction imposed till March 31, one could only imagine the losses it will bear.
However, the division has taken utmost care to sanitise the buses and depot with disinfectants.
“Ever since the Corona virus spread, we have been sanitising the report and buses as passengers are at potential threat. Disinfectant was used at seats, door handles and other places”, KSRTC urban divisional controller, Mysuru division SP Nagaraj told Mysoorunews.com.
But, the rural division pegs it’s losses at a whopping Rs 80 lakh per day. “We operate buses between inter- states from rural division. There are as many as 700 buses,” said KSRTC Rural DC, Mysuru division Ashok Kumar.
He also stressed that the division has taken measures to sanitise the buses and the depot in the meantime.
