Mysuru: A flying eagle made from used plastic spoons, nails thrown at construction sites taking the shape of Buddha, the house decor made from used beer-wine bottles, Sri Krishna artworks, mirror fixed to used tyre, banners made using natural dyes from disposable clothes, etc.,

The waste materials littered everywhere have been given a touch of art here and the message of Swachh Bharat is spread through them.

The Gram Panchayat office here has been transformed into an art centre.

Yes! If you visit the Gram Panchayat office of Hoskote, a small village in T Narsipur taluk of the district, it is not surprising if you get lost and wonder whether you have stepped into an art exhibition.

As part of Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, a nationwide exercise, various kinds of art works have been created here from the waste materials. The cone shaped paper rolls used to pack churmuri have blossomed into an art work named Paper Flower. The colourful paintings on different themes adorn the walls. The wall hangings made of ice-cream sticks and paper plates, flower pot made of thread, peacock feather made from old colour paper are the other art works.

A corner of the wall has been turned into a tree, with an artistic green painting.

Purnia V N, Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) of Gram Panchayat, is the brain behind this creative initiative. A MSc, BEd graduate, she is making this creative effort to build awareness about cleanliness in the panchayat.

The innovative concept of “Waste to Art” is realised here, with a touch of art and heart.

It is to promote recycling of waste materials and the idea of preparing decorative items using them as part of waste recycling exercise. Various works of art that inspire environmental consciousness and highlight the importance of reducing waste are enticing here.
