Apollo Gym instructor YNR turns 86! Family, students make it a fitting moment by celebrating the birthday

Mysuru: Y Nagesh Rao popular as ‘YNR’ among his students turned 86 on Sunday.

Apollo Gymnasium on fourth main, fourth cross, Vidyaranyapuram in the city, is one of the oldest gymnasiums with 120 students/ members. The students came together to celebrate 86th birthday of Nagesh Rao.

Y Nagesh Rao is carrying forward the legacy of his father Y V N Iah (Ayya) who established the gym in the year 1941, whose black and white photo of striking a pose of his fit physique still adorns the wall of the gym, along with several other photos.
Rao has dedicated 50 years of his life as a trainer cum instructor, apart from serving as the PT Master at Marimallappa’s High School on Seethavilas road, Devaraja Mohalla in the city till his retirement.

The gym members who have been regularly practicing for many years decorated the main hall of the gym with colourful balloons and yelled in joy, as Rao cut the birthday cake and honoured him and his wife Gayatri N with Mysore Peta, a traditional headgear and garland.

The event was not only cherished by Nagesh Rao’s family members, but also reminisced about the early days when YVN IAH, the grandfather and Nagesh Rao tirelessly worked towards promoting physical fitness among the youth.

Among the family members present were daughter Veena, son- in-law Sathya Prakash N and grandson S Shreyas, daughter Vidya N, son-in-law Anand Balasubramaniam and granddaughter Ananya, daughter Parvati, son-in-law R Pradeep and granddaughter Preeti and son Vikram S N, daughter-in-law Pallavi G and granddaughters Anvita S V and Archith S V.

The students of gymnasium included Mallanna, Rajendra, Nagabhushan, Sreenivas Prasad, Ashwathnarayan, Krishnamurthy, Manjunath, Eshwar, Prabhu Shankar, Madhuprakash and Jayaram among several others didn’t miss the rare opportunity to take photos with their favourite trainer Nagesh Rao and sought his blessings.
