Anti-Conversion Bill! Siddaramaiah demands rationale behind bid for another law

Belagavi: Unfazed over the grave allegations made by ruling BJP MLAs in the floor over a Bill to check religious conversions in the State mooted during his tenure as chief minister, Opposition Leader Siddaramaiah launched a scathing attack on the government.
Questioning the veracity behind the Anti-Conversion Bill tabled by BJP, Siddaramaiah hit back at the government with a series of questions.
When there is a law already in existence in the Constitution to act against any forcible religious conversions, what is the necessity of another law? One should not oppose hypothetically, but cite the reasons to justify.
Siddaramaiah referred to a similar Bill mooted by BJP government in Gujarat only to be granted stay from a Court there. The Bill will also meet the same fate in Karnataka as it doesn’t hold any ground for a stand, he added.
Siddaramaiah quoted the opinions of Swami Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhiji too with regard to the contentious issue.
He also went down the annals of history where several litterateurs of yore and also spiritual personalities had embraced different religions.
