Mysuru: Former minister and Narasimharaja MLA Tanveer Sait has written to Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to come to the rescue of approved tourist guides. The government should announce special financial assistance for them, Sait has demanded.

In a letter to the chief minister, Sait has drawn the attention towards the plight of tourism department approved tourist guides across the State including Mysuru.

Following the lockdown caused by Covid-19 crises, tourist places are closed in the State from January last for an indefinite period. Most of them were dependent on lockdown. Accordingly thousands of tourism department approved guides who were eking out a living through tourism are in dire straits. They are on the verge of being pushed to streets along with their family. They are struggling to meet their daily expenses and medical expenditure.

The funds allocated for tourism department for the year 2020-21 and 2021-22, under various heads, remain unused. Hence the pending funds in the department can be used for the welfare of tourist guides, Sait has urged the chief minister.
