Mysuru: Following the fresh threats over the emergence of Omicron a new variant of Covid-19, and the safety guidelines reissued by the government, Bahuroopi 2021 annual national theatre festival has been postponed.

Rangayana director Addanda Cariyappa and Additional Deputy Commissioner B S Manjunathaswmay also confirmed the development related to Bahuroopi.

The very development came at a time when there was a raging debate over the guest list including Malavika Avinash and Chakravarthy Sulibele the hardcore right wingers.

The theatre enthusiasts had also launched a campaign to boycott the festival.

It was scheduled to be held from December 10 to December 19. Motherhood was the theme.

As the Covid guidelines are effective till January 15,  Bahuroopi is expected to be held thereafter, according to Rangayana sources.

According to the new guidelines public gatherings should be restricted to 500 people. As Bahuroopi is expected to draw more than 2000 people everyday, it was eventually decided to postpone the annual event.
