Ambedkar laid foundation for united India, says BJP city president

2 min read

Mysuru: BJP City unit president T V Srivatsa on Tuesday sang paeans of Dr B R Ambedkar for making India one of the largest democratic nations in the world.

It is only due to the Constitution of India drafted by Ambedkar that India could achieve such a rare distinction, said Srivatsa during the birth anniversary celebration of Ambedkar organised at BJP office Sachin Rajendra Bhavan on Tuesday.

If the law of the land is followed by all, it is again due to the strong influence of the Constitution on the people. When the United India that was till then divided into separate states and provinces came into existence, it was Ambedkar who laid the foundation for the country through Constitution”, said Srivatsa.

But Ambedkar had to fall prey to the conspiracy of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Ambedkar who contested the maiden parliamentary elections from Mumbai central constituency in 1952 had to suffer defeat at the hands of a little known candidate who was supported by Nehru. The candidate who defeated Ambedkar was also honoured with Padma Vibhushan in 1970.

However, it was then BJP MPs led by Atal Behari Vajpayee who exhorted then prime minister V P Singh to confer Bharat Ratna a highest civilian honour posthumously on Ambedkar. They also insisted on adorning the central hall of the parliament with a portrait of Ambedkar.

BJP Mysuru rural president Mahendra, general Secretaries H G Giridhar and Somasundar, Vanish, Corporators Vedavati and Sharadamma, backward classes wing president Jogi Manju, SC morcha president Eshwar, leaders Pradeep Kumar, Vishwa, Jayaram, Cable Mahesh, Nagaraj and Vikram Iyengar were present.
