Allegations of handling Covid crises echoes at MCC council meeting

1 min read
Mysuru: Pandemonium was witnessed at the council meeting of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) on Tuesday over the allegations of failure of state government in handling Covid crises.
As the meeting began, corporators charged Mayor Tasneem and MCC Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde for the poor management of the pandemic. However, former mayor and Congress Corporator Arif Hussain held the government responsible in this regard.
Husain claimed that “at Bengaluru 50 per cent of beds are allotted to the government refered patients, while in Mysuru we don’t have adequate number of beds. Even our family members also had to suffer due to lack of beds at hospitals”.
The very comments enraged BJP corporators, who rushed into the well of the council hall and protested against Arif Hussain and demanded him to take back the remarks made against state government.
Later, mayor openly slammed MCC commissioner for not releasing adequate grants to wards.
Mayor was peeved that despite she announcing the grants by the virtue of power as a first citizen of the city, the delay in grants will bring disrepute to her. As it led to noisy scenes, the meeting was postponed for sometime.
Earlier a minute’s silence was observed to condole the death of former president Pranab Mukherjee, Union Minister of State for Railways Suresh  Angadi and singer S P Balasubrahmanyam.
