Album ‘Meera: The Way Of The Storm’ wins International Music Award

Mysuru: The International Singer-Songwriters Association (ISSA) Awards 2024, held at the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center in Atlanta, USA showcased leading music talents from around the world, with nominations spanning 40 countries, affirming the ISSA’s commitment to promoting
diverse musical genres.
This prestigious ceremony honors exceptional
contributions to the music industry, with winners selected by a panel of esteemed music professionals alongside public votes, highlighting the collaborative spirit between artists and their audiences.
“Meera: The Way of the Storm,” an original theatrical music album composed by Mahesh Mahadev and sung by Dr Priyadarshini, has
garnered international acclaim, clinching the “Best Male Album of the Year” Award for 2024.
With 13 songs and a theme score, the album artfully encapsulates the spirit of Meera Bai’s poetry across multiple languages, including Braj, Rajasthani, Gujarati, Marwari, and Hindi, showcasing Mahadev’s masterful compositions and Dr Priyadarshini’s melodious singing.
Mahesh Mahadev said “There are existing Meera songs sung by legendary singers like M S Subbalakshmi, Lata Mangeshkar, Vani Jayaram popular throughout India; it was a challenge for me to create these songs to
resonate with modern audiences today”.
“I put in my sincere efforts to compose the songs in various ragas with a cinematic touch to fit the storylines exploring various themes and moods, with usage of traditional
instruments to suit the nativity of the life of Saint Meera.”
I’m glad to see Priyadarshini’s voice on par with legends which has proven today by
attracting the audience and bringing in the award.
Priyadarshini said this album has few rare songs like “Varmaladhari”, “Harivar mukhyo kem jaaye”, Raas dance song “Sakhi Suno kahi”, which have not been sung so far. “Ghoomar Mukhdani maya lagi re”, the hit song of the album, topped the charts of It is now Radio, UK, Swindon on Top 30
world song chart for almost a month.
“Meera: The Way of the Storm,” a production by Vinitha Subramanian from Austin, Texas, showcases the artistic collaboration of directors Anu Nistala and Kanaka.
