Alarming 139 dengue cases in Mysuru in four-and-a-half months

Mysuru: Even as the fear over Covid-19 pandemic still remains, alarming rise in cases of dengue fever in the State is a cause of concern.

In the last four-and-a-half months, 139 dengue cases have been reported in Mysuru district alone against 182 cases reported in whole year in 2021, according to the statistics available with the district health and family welfare office. 

In the wake of the Dengue situation, District Health Department is engaged in massive awareness campaign as National Dengue day is observed every year on May 16. The theme for the year is “Dengue is preventable: Let’s Join Hands”.

Mysuru urban and rural areas are under high monitoring for dengue fever. Though the cases are still low compared to the rate of infections reported in the  last four to five years, the officials claim.

District Health Officer Dr K H Prasad told Mysoorunews.com “We are continuously spreading awareness and our health volunteers are visiting individual houses and creating awareness about cleanliness and regular cleaning of tanks to maintain hygiene. However when compared to previous three to four years, the cases are low this year, as in a period of four-and-a-half months we have recorded 139 cases”.

According to the data provided by health and family welfare department, the cases in last 10 years are as follows- 2012-15 cases, 2013-334, 2014-65, 2015-382, 2016-582, 2017-843, 2018-49, 2019-122 and 2020-32 cases.

Barring three deaths in 2013 and two deaths in 2017, no deaths due to dengue are reported in the remaining years.

While five cases of Chikun Gunya are reported in last four-and-a-half months.
