1 min read

Chamarajanagar: Any VVIP visit to Chamarajanagar hits headlines for one reason.

The jinx attached with the town as there were instances of sitting chief ministers losing power after visiting the town.

With President of India Ram Nath Kovind visiting B R Hills in the district on October 7, the tongues have set wagging with the talks about jinx and aftermath.

There were some leaders, who wary of the jinx went around Chamarajanagar, but skipped the town. The blind belief over losing power kept them hooked.

Ahead of the parliamentary elections Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to campaign at Santhemaralli, located 10 km within the proximity of the town.

In 2006 then President of India APJ Abdhul Kalam visited B R Hills and celebrated his 76th birthday and interacted with Soliga ethnic group. But, Chamarajanagar was not on his itinerary.

Immediate past Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, though visited Male Mahadeshwara Hills in the district on several occasions, also didn’t visit Chamarajanagar town.

Cut back to 1988, then Chief Minister S R Bommai lost power after visiting Chamarajanagar. Now, S R Bommai’s son Basavaraj Bommai is the incumbent chief minister of Karnataka.

Now, as per protocol during the visit of President of India, the onus of taking part is on the chief minister.

The then chief minister Siddaramaiah broke the jinx and visited Chamarajanagar town, a bold step to check blind beliefs.
