2 min read

Mysuru: After All India Congress Committee (AICC) former president Rahul Gandhi’s letter to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to take measures to treat the elephant calf that was found injured during his safari in Nagarahole forest recently, forest department has swung into action.

The calf has suffered injuries in its trump and tail. The forest department veterinarians are treating the elephant for its wounds.

Following is the letter written by Rahul Gandhi to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

Shri Basavaraj Bommai Chief Minister of Karnataka

Dear Shri Basavaraj Bommai Ji,

I hope this letter finds you well.

The Congress President and I briefly visited Nagarhole Tiger Reserve where we happened to come across the painful sight of an injured baby elephant, with its mother. The little calf has a severely injured tail and trunk, and is fighting for its life.

I understand and appreciate that there is a view that nature must be allowed to take its own course. However, in the case of endangered and iconic species, exceptions are often made depending on the severity of the situation. The aforementioned calf is undoubtedly in need of urgent medical care.

Therefore, I wanted to cross political boundaries and appeal to your sense of compassion to intervene and save the little elephant.

I am confident that it will survive if given proper treatment. I hope you will extend timely assistance to save the iconic little elephant.
