After coming out of containment, Janata Nagar residents flout social distancing norms

Mysuru: Two days after Containment Zones were lifted, thousands of people gathered caring a hoot for social distancing at Janatha Nagar.
On Thursday morning residents of Janatha Nagar assembled near former mayor T B Chikkanna’s house on fifth cross T K Layout after learning that Varuna constituency MLA Yathindra Siddaramaiah will distribute food kits.
The residents started to turn up from 10.30 am and waited till 12-30 pm, with sun hovering on the top. Though they were wearing mask, the residents were not bothered about maintaining a social distance, a must to do against Coronavirus.
Police also found it tough to ensure that the people complied with social distance. To avoid the crowd, they just limited themselves to announce on microphone to allow only those people who have already collected coupons issued by the organisers.
Eventually, Corporator J Gopi and T B Chikkana distributed grocery kits comprising nine items including sugar, edible oil, salt, soap and vegetables.
