Actor Sanchari Vijay declared brain dead, family donates organs

Bengaluru: Actor Sanchari Vijay who had suffered grievous injuries in a road accident succumbed on Monday. He was 37.

The doctors declared him brain dead late on Monday night.

Following this, process to retrieve his organs like- eyes, kidneys, liverĀ  heart and valves began.

The death declaration is expected at around midnight after completing the process of organ donation.

Vijay who had suffered severe injuries in his head causing internal bleeding in the brain was in a critical state ever since he was wheeled into Apollo Hospitals on Bannerghatta road.

The family members had lost all hopes, as there was no improvement in his health even after 32 hours of the accident. He was in coma.

It was evident as Vijay’s younger brother Siddesh in a broken tone said that ” We have decided to donate his orhans for the benefit of others. As there is a certain procedure to be followed for organ donation, we have decided to donate the organs,” said Siddesh struggling to hold back his tears even as there was no official announcement yet on his health.

A native of Panchanahalli, Kadur taluk in Chikkamagaluru, Vijay started as a theatre actor before making into films.

Vijay who had acted in a handful of names, shot into fame after he won 62nd National Award for his portrayal as a transgender in “Naanu Avanalla Avalu” in 2014. It was also the third national award for best acting in Kannada after M V Vasudeva Rao and Chaaru Hassan.

Vijay who made a debut in 2011 with “Rangappa Hogbitna” was last seen in runaway hit film ‘Act 1978’ starring Yagna Shetty in the lead role, released in 2020.

Vijay had acted in films like- Harivu, Nachitarami, Gentleman, Dasavala, Padarasa, 6ne Maili, Krishna Tulasi, Allama, Varthamana, Killing Veerappan to name a few.
