Bengaluru: Film actor Ranya Rao, is arrested on the charges of a gold smuggling case.
Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials detained her at Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (KIAB) on Monday, following an investigation that revealed her alleged involvement in smuggling 15- kg gold from Dubai, against the permissible quantity. She was later arrested.
Sources indicate that, officials had been tracking a smuggling network and Ranya’s name surfaced during their probe. The details of the case, including the quantity of gold smuggled and her exact role, are still under investigation.
Ranya Rao’s family has a notable background, with her brother married to actor Soundarya, daughter of veteran actress and former Minister Jayamala.
