2 min read

Bengaluru: Sandalwood actor and murder accused Darshan Thoogudeepa’s photo allegedly indicating the privileges he is enjoying  inside Parappana Agrahara Central Jail in the city, has sparked controversy after the photo went viral.

The images, which show Thoogudeepa enjoying royal treatment, having a mug of tea or coffee, with a cigarette in his left hand, hanging on with rowdy sheeters Wilson Garden Naga and Srinivas alias Kulla Seena and his manager Nagaraj, also the co-accused in murder case, all smiles on their faces, sitting comfortably on chairs in an open space within the jail precincts, has set the tongues wagging.

However, like as always, it comes to the notice of media first and the Government next, no sooner the photos went viral on media, the Home Ministry took notice and seven jail staff were ordered to be suspended, with a pending inquiry.

Thoogudeepa, who is in judicial custody in the brutal murder case of Renukacharya of  Chitradurga, is booked as accused No. 2. However his clout among the men who matter, has come to be known after his lifestyle in incarcerated time, was revealed to the public.

The photos, allegedly taken by a fellow jail inmate Velu (yet again the prisoners have access to cell phones?), has sparked a wide debate on social media, about the preferential treatment one can buy with money power, in the prison.

Home Minister Dr G Parameshwar has vowed to take action against the blatant jail staff and has initiated an internal inquiry into the matter. The suspensions are a part of the ongoing efforts to address the issue and maintain fairness in the prison system, Parameshwar said.

Darshan and 16 others including actress Pavithra Gowda, have been arrested in the murder case of Renukaswamy. The body of Renukaswamy, was found disposed near a storm water drain on June 9.
