Accidents on Mysuru- Bengaluru Expressway: Mandya DC, SP list loopholes, direct NHAI officers to act

Mandya: In the wake of increase in accidents on Mysuru- Bengaluru Expressway passing through Mandya district, Deputy Commissioner Dr H N Gopalakrishna on Tuesday directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officers to finish the incomplete works and streamline the traffic system.
Presiding over the meeting of District Road Safety Committee at his office meeting hall, DC Gopalakrishna said “Due to incomplete service road, there has been an inconvenience to traffic movement, which can be keenly observed with the surge in accidents in the 55-km Expressway that passes through the district, in the last three months.”
The quality of road must be maintained, caution boards must be installed on the entry and exit points, install lights at service road junction, fix speed limit on the Expressway and take measures to stop theft of electricity towers on the either side of the Expressway, DC Gopalakrishna told NHAI officers.
By cutting the mesh on the either side of the road, there are possibilities of accidents and those committing the theft of mesh should be booked under a case and road safety awareness must be created at the villages of Mandya, Maddur and Srirangapatna that come under Expressway. The potholes on the roads coming under local bodies, PWD and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj should be fixed for the ease of traffic.
DC Gopalakrishna also informed that it is being thought over to install CCTV cameras in various parts of the district including the town to impose fine on traffic offenders.
SP N Yathish said ‘The speed breaker should be built on the service road from Mandya that connects Maddur main road on the Expressway. It is due to the lack of speed breakers that accidents are being reported on the Expressway.’
NHAI officers N H Mruthyunjaya, Rajendra Kumar and Prasad, Executive Engineer of PWD Harsha, RTO Vivekananda, KSRTC Divisional Controller Raju, ZP engineer Shivachandru and Assistant Executive Engineer of TMC Ravikumar were present.
