Hubballi: Bharat Ratna Dr B R Ambedkar Jayanti was observed on April 15 at Rail Soudha, the Headquarters of South Western Railway (SWR), Hubballi, to commemorate the 134th Birth Anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar.
Mukul Saran Mathur, General Manager of South Western Railway, offered floral tributes to the portrait of Babasaheb and addressed the gathering.

In his address, Mathur highlighted that Dr B R Ambedkar played a pivotal role in uplifting marginalised communities and shaping India’s democratic framework as the chief architect of the Constitution—one of the most comprehensive in the world. His visionary leadership introduced fundamental rights, a federal structure and provisions for social justice such as reservations, thereby ensuring a balanced relationship between the Centre and the States, and among the judiciary, executive, and legislature.

Dr Ambedkar also emphasised the importance of independent constitutional bodies like the Election Commission, UPSC, and the offices of the President and Governor, even before the country’s first general elections. Beyond his legal contributions, Dr Ambedkar’s life is a powerful example of how education and determination can empower individuals from any background. His enduring values of equality, dignity and responsibility continue to inspire generations, and as citizens, we must uphold these ideals in our daily lives.

K S Jain, Additional General Manager, SWR, Principal Heads of Departments, other officers, representatives of recognised unions and associations and staff were present on the occasion.
Dr B R Ambedkar Jayanti was also observed at the Divisional Offices of Hubballi, Mysuru, Bengaluru and at the Workshops of South Western Railway.
