H D Kumaraswamy accepts Cheluvarayaswamy’s challenge, calls him a joker

3 min read

Mandya: Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy launched a scathing verbal attack on Agriculture Minister and Mandya district incharge N Cheluvarayaswamy, stating, “His claim that he made me the Chief Minister is the biggest joke. He should not forget that it was the MLAs who made me CM.”

Responding to a media query on Cheluvarayaswamy’s remarks, the Union Minister gave a sharp reply: “The MLAs were with me, and even that man knows it. Did the MLAs come by looking at his face? They came because of the faith and trust they had in me. Doesn’t he know all this?”

“That man is a hundred percent joker. He must not forget that the ‘joker culture’ began with the Congress party. Where was he then? Where did he go afterward? Everyone knows these facts. That is why I don’t even need to name him,” the Minister said, taking a dig.

Reacting to Agriculture Minister Cheluvarayaswamy’s challenge and invitation to take an oath at Dharmasthala, the Union Minister said, “I am ready to take an oath. When I became CM, did MLAs come by looking at his face? I went through great hardship to make that man a Minister. He wouldn’t even let me sleep until 3 AM. Did 50 MLAs come looking at his face? They should not forget the effort I put in for him,” said Kumaraswamy, expressing his frustration.

“I don’t have the kind of habits he has. In Mandya, if you ask about his habits, people talk about them on the streets. Let’s not discuss those habits—it is in poor taste. People of Mandya know the kind of interests he has. I know how many families he has ruined. I never had any greed for money. I have worked among the people 24/7. I’ve worked until dawn during Janata Darshans and village stays. Serving people is my personal issue. I don’t have any bad habits like him. God sees everything,” Kumaraswamy said, expressing his disappointment.

Reacting to the Agriculture Minister’s open challenge for a public debate, Kumaraswamy said, “Is it important to debate about one’s personal history? When we associate with such devious people, everyone faces problems. No human is perfect. God gives us a chance to correct our mistakes. I have already admitted in the Assembly that I made a mistake once in life. I never claimed I didn’t. I know what that man has done. Let’s not dwell on such matters. Instead, let’s discuss the lives and issues of the people,” advised the Union Minister.

“Alliance is stable; no issues”

The JD(S)–BJP alliance is strong. There is no room for doubt. D V Sadananda Gowda himself has stated that a coordination committee must be formed for the JD(S)–BJP alliance. Several senior leaders have also suggested forming a coordination committee. There is no rift in the alliance, Kumaraswamy asserted.

When asked about the BJP’s Jan Aakrosh Andolan, the Minister said, “They are fighting to strengthen their party. They haven’t called us. They have said it is their party’s programme. They are protesting against the government. There is no crack in the alliance. Everyone is firm and united. Each party is working on its own organisational goals,” he said.
